Week 2 — Expanding the Groove
In Week 2, we build on the foundation by adding movement and depth to the progression.
First, you’ll revisit the basic progression with the capo at the 4th fret, this time adding a connecting bassline between each chord. These passing tones create forward motion and help you hear how the harmony flows rather than jumps.
Next, you’ll learn the progression using bar chords, incorporating a palm-slap strumming pattern to lock in rhythm and groove. This adds a percussive element to your playing and strengthens your timing, feel, and right-hand control.
Finally, you’ll return to the melody — but now from the G position of CAGED. Seeing the same melodic ideas in a new position reinforces fretboard awareness and helps you connect shapes horizontally across the neck.
This week is about integration:
Harmony
Bass movement
Rhythm
Melody
Everything working together.
Stay relaxed, focus on feel, and let the groove lead the technique.
